Every case is different, but our highly-skilled team can advise you on the most cost-effective and efficient way to proceed with your case. Our fee earners specialise within distinct areas, and we can match you with the solicitors best suited to your specific needs and requirements.
Every year, more than 100,000 marriages in England and Wales end in divorce. If it’s happening to you, you’re not odd, you’re not unusual and you’re certainly not alone. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be worrying about the future, frightened about finances, concerned for your home and worried about your children.
The law in this area is complex and rapidly changing to reflect society’s changing social mores and lifestyle choices. You may wish to instigate proceedings to end an unsatisfactory relationship, or you may be on the receiving end of a divorce petition from your partner.
Stowe Family Law was founded in 1982 and, 30 years later, has been instructed in more than 10,000 divorce cases. Our divorce solicitors are known for their specialist expertise as well as their extensive experience, and they deal with divorce on a daily basis.
They are led by Senior Partner and highly respected divorce solicitor Marilyn Stowe, who has been described by The Daily Telegraph as a “force of nature” and by The Times as “one of the most formidable and sought-after divorce lawyers in the UK”. Stowe Family Law has grown to become the UK’s largest specialist family law firm, and clients benefit from our specialist teams, departments and lawyers who can provide invaluable assistance at every stage of the divorce process. Our dedicated Children’s Department, led by Stephen Hopwood, helps clients to resolve any contested issues raised in relation to the children. Our International Family Law Department, headed by Frank Arndt, takes on cases from all over the world. Our in-house Forensic Accountancy Team, led by Nick White, can speed up the divorce process by providing immediate advice about the likely scale and nature of a case.
At Stowe Family Law we will advise you on the most cost-effective and efficient way of proceeding with a divorce, taking your individual circumstances into account. In order to obtain a divorce you must have been married for at least 12 months and must be able to demonstrate that your marriage has suffered “irretrievable breakdown”.
At the first meeting with your divorce solicitor you will discuss the reasons for the breakdown of the marriage and whether the marriage can be saved. If it can’t, you may be required to provide information in relation to the date of separation; details of any children of the family including the proposed future arrangements for the children; details of your own and your partner’s assets, income, savings and pension interests.
Steering our clients through the upset, anger and acceptance of divorce is an essential part of our job. Stowe Family Law solicitors understand that divorce can be an emotionally testing time for all of those involved. We can help you find a divorce lawyer who really can help. Furthermore, we are here to shoulder the burden for you so that you can begin the process of re-building your life.
