Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu has announced her divorce from French tenor Roberto Alagna.
Speaking to the Mediafax news agency, the 47 year-old opera star said:
“We have decided together and on perfectly friendly terms with Roberto Alagna to get divorced as soon as possible. Each of us will go their own way but we don’t rule out performing together again as we have already done.”
Gheorgiu married Alagna, now 49, in 1996 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The pair briefly separated in 2009. After their reunion, Gheorgiu said: “It was stupid of us to be apart.”
Gheorgiu has performed in leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera and many other venues, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera and La Scala in Milan.
