Actor Ethan Hawke drew on his experiences of life as a divorced Dad in forthcoming romantic drama Before Midnight.
The 42 year-old reportedly told Entertainment Weekly: “Anybody who’s divorced will tell you that the transition at the end of the summer, which, as a father, is the one time of year where you get to spend a lot of time with your kid, is very painful. You get confronted with the facts of your divorce. It’s always a very painful moment for me. So that made it into the beginning of Before Midnight.”
The film is the third a trilogy of films about the romance between American novelist Jesse and Frenchwoman Celine, played by Julie Delpy. Jesse is struggling to maintain a relationship with his teenage son from his first marriage. The film shows the boy returning home to Chicago after visiting his father in Greece.
Hawke was married to actress and model Uma Thurman from 1998 to 2004 and the couple had two children together before separating amidst allegations of infidelity.
In 2008 Hawke married Ryan Shawhughes, who had worked as a nanny to he and Thurman’s children.
Before Midnight will be released in the UK on June 21.
