The person who is requesting a divorce (by submitting a divorce application to the court) is called the applicant. The applicant is responsible for paying the court fee. The person who replies to the application is the respondent. With no-fault divorce you are also able to apply as joint applicants. The applicant has no advantage in terms of children or finance agreements over their partner by virtue of being the person to file the papers.
