With the growth of cross-border divorce and the UK’s reputation as the “divorce capital of the world”, our International Family Law Department has become increasingly well-known for its unmatchable experience, expertise and network of overseas lawyers and contacts. Solicitors from our International Family Law Department have been featured by the Financial Times, Le Figaro, BBC Russia and CNBC, amongst others.
Stowe Family Law’s international family law expertise is regularly sought in relation to relevant English law and the most suitable jurisdiction (country) for an overall financial settlement. Our International Family Law Department assists English and overseas clients with legal matters including:
Divorce - Early advice is essential to ensure that the most suitable jurisdiction is secured for a client, particularly in European cases, where parties can “race” to issue proceedings in different countries.
In such cases, assuming that the grounds to proceed exist in both countries, the case will be heard in the first court in which proceedings are issued. This can have a dramatic impact upon the eventual financial settlement.
Drawing upon Stowe Family Law’s casebook, we have prepared international family law factsheets for the following countries:
French Factsheet - COMING SOON
German Factsheet - COMING SOON
We will be adding additional factsheets over the coming months, so if your country is not listed above, please contact us for advice and assistance.
Finances & Asset Protection – Our International Family Law Department has an excellent track record in cases that involve assets located worldwide, and complex offshore trusts and companies. Stowe Family Law can make swift applications to the court for worldwide asset protection in relevant cases.
For clients who are resident overseas, our International Family Law Department can make applications for interim maintenance, if bank funding for legal fees is not possible.
Asset Valuation – As the UK’s largest specialist family law firm, Stowe Family Law can produce, in-house, overall asset valuations at speed, without the delay and additional expense of instructing other firms of chartered accountants. On a number of previous occasions, this facility has proved vital to the outcome of cross-border jurisdiction races.
International Child Abduction – Our International Family Law Department helps parents to secure the return of their children from other jurisdictions. We have also represented parents who bring their children into England and Wales without the relevant permissions.
