Training & experience

Maya is a Partner based in the Chelmsford office, covering the Essex and Kent areas, but is happy to accept referrals and instructions from all regions. Maya has expertise in handling a range of matters involving children and high-net worth clients.

Specialisms

Maya’s main specialism and interest focuses on private children matters, where there are multifaceted issues to be resolved, allegations of abuse and parental conflict. She has a particular expertise in cases where fact finding hearings are required and has successfully managed cases involving the requirement for specialist testing by accredited third parties, the analysis of expert and hospital reports and where accredited expert evidence and significant disclosure obligations are key. Maya also has experience in working on cases where there is media interest, both in the Family Court and the High Court.

Maya also has a wealth of experience in cases concerning issues over Parental Responsibility, relocation with children both within the UK and internationally, Grandparents’ Rights and Special Guardianship Orders.

Maya is frequently instructed to advise on financial settlements on divorce or separation and nuptial agreements. She receives instructions in respect of claims by third parties in financial settlements, and by cohabitants both in TOLATA proceedings and Schedule 1 of the Children Act, if such matters cannot be resolved by an alternate dispute resolution such as mediation. Maya also has extensive experience in the drafting and negotiating of nuptial, cohabitation and separation agreements.

Maya has specific experience in dealing with financial matters with international and multi-jurisdictional elements, involving complex company structures, high value pension assets and property portfolios (both in the UK and abroad) In addition, she has dealt with cases involving the variation of financial orders, as well as applications for interim maintenance and legal funding.

Maya takes an empathetic and proactive approach towards her clients. She aims to guide them through their individual process with as much support as they need, whilst at the same time providing realistic advice, and a constructive way forward, to resolve matters as quickly and cost effectively as possible.
