The Stowe Family Law team in London has agreed to run weekly volunteer solicitors’ sessions at Citizens Advice at the Central London Family Courts in Holborn.
The sessions will provide legal advice to people who cannot afford a lawyer and have queries about a family law matter including divorce, cohabitation issues, civil partnerships, the care, contact or access to children, financial matters as well as domestic abuse and other family law cases.
The sessions will take place between 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm at Citizens Advice at the Central London Family Courts in Holborn. Appointments must be pre-booked.
Sarah Jane Lenihan, Senior Solicitor at Stowe’s London Victoria office said:
“I regularly volunteer for the CAB as I find it extremely rewarding helping those who are not in a financial position to pay for legal advice. The cuts in legal aid over the years for most family law cases have made this service even more important. I was delighted to arrange for the Stowe Family Law London team to have a weekly presence at the CAB in the Central Family Court in Holborn and give something back to the community where we work.”
Phoebe Turner, Managing Partner said:
“Since the use of legal aid for family law including divorce was cut back in 2013, the rising number of people having to go to court without professional legal advice is very worrying. It’s very difficult to represent yourself in court and the process can put people’s job and health at risk. By offering initial free legal advice we can talk through the legal processes and help people to make better-informed decisions.”
