How to prepare for court?
How to Prepare
No matter what you're facing in court, preparation is key to having the best possible result in your hearing. Before going to court it's important to remember to bring documents such as your hearing letter and case number, papers that are related to the hearing, a snack and water; if you aren't sure on what needs to be brought, speak with your solicitor. To avoid any issues from arising during the proceedings, come prepared with an advanced understanding of how the process will proceed. Dress appropriately for court, however, you are allowed to wear head coverings only due to religious purposes. Your lawyer can help you get through the day and make sure that everything is taken care of properly.
Arriving at Court
Arriving at court on time is incredibly important; if you're late, the court may not be able to hear your case. It's best to plan ahead and arrive at least half an hour before your hearing time in order to prevent any delays. If other proceedings are expected to run over the allotted time, you may be left waiting a bit longer. For this reason, it's best to take this into consideration when you're considering transportation and parking options at the courthouse.
When you enter the courtroom, security personnel will screen your items just as they do at an airport. This ensures that firearms or alcohol aren't brought into the court room and that all of your belongings are returned safely when you leave. During the hearing set your phone to quiet mode and refrain from taking images or movies. When a staff member announces "everyone rise," it means the judge/magistrate is going to enter the room. When it is your turn to speak, you will be informed of what you must do.
