Divorce|Family|News|February 14th 2013

The town of Wimborne Minster in Dorset has a higher proportion of married couples than any other town in the country, according to figures from the 2011 census.

Six out of ten adults in the market town and its surrounding district are married – the highest proportion in the UK, and twice that in Manchester and parts of London.

Only 29.7 per cent of adults in Manchester are married, compared to 59.4 per cent in the Dorset town. Little more than a quarter of the adult population of the London district of Islington is married.

Amersham in Buckinghamshire is the second most married areas in the country, with 58.5 per cent of couples having tied the knot, closely followed by Hart in Hampshire, at 58.4 per cent.

The census figures were compiled by estate agent Barnard Marcus.

Last month it was revealed that Hastings in East Sussex and  Worthing in West Sussex have the highest proportion of divorced or separated residents in the country.
