Groom divorces wife during the wedding ceremony

An Emirati man divorced his new wife within minutes of their marriage after an argument broke out during the ceremony, The Gulf Today reports.

The couple’s families began to quarrel when it was discovered that the groom’s brother had not rented a video camera despite an agreement that he would do so. When the new husband then saw his new wife and her mother being rude to his own mother, he immediately divorced his new bride, the newspaper claims. The erstwhile groom then told the hotel in Sharjah to evacuate all the guests.

In another recent case, a Saudi woman demanded an immediate divorce from her new husband when he received a text message shortly after signing his marriage certificate saying he had lost one million Saudi riyals on the foreign exchange markets.

According to a report in Saudi newspaper Okaz:

“He got a shock and was rushed to hospital in a bad condition after losing most of his life savings. The bride quickly asked for a divorce.”
