X-Factor contest Katie Waissel recalls bitter divorce in new song

Singer-songwriter Katie Waissel has released a song about her brief marriage to male model Brad Alphonso.

The 27 year-old Briton married Alphonso in September last year, only four months after the couple met. But the marriage lasted just two months before dissolving into a series of “horrific rows”.

The former X Factor contestant says she now feels “conned and stupid” about the brief marriage and has released a piano balled called I’m Fine describing the divorce.

She told the Mail:

“I wrote this song because I quite simply didn’t know how to express myself in any other way. It was the easiest way to get my emotions out at what has become an absolutely heartbreaking time. What is amazing is that this has been a total release for me emotionally. This is how a song should be written. I quite simply went to see my manager Mark and my old engineer James… and ended up at a piano with a microphone where it all came out.”

In an earlier interview with Now magazine, she described the break-up.

“I ended it after two months. I didn’t file for divorce for as long as I could because I wanted to make it work. But the rows were horrific. I remember being on my hands and knees crying, begging him. ‘Let’s just go to New Orleans and forget about everything here.’ But he wanted this LA lifestyle. I tried so many different things to make it work.”

She added: “I was humiliated. I’d completely lost the man I loved. I feel tricked, conned and stupid.”

Katie Waissel now performs with the band Red Velvet.
