Scottish singer and performer Darius Campbell Danesh has filed for divorce from actress Natasha Henstridge.
Half-Iranian Darius shot to fame as a finalist on Pop Idol in 2002, later becoming a successful singer-songwriter, author, opera singer and West End stage performer.
He began a relationship with the actress and fashion model after reportedly meeting her on a pedestrian crossing in 2004, and they eventually married in an impromptu ceremony on Valentine’s Day 2011. But the couple have now gone their separate ways.
Speaking to the Mail, Darius, now 32, confirmed that he and his estranged wife have decided to end their marriage.
“We decided to file for divorce and we ask for privacy at this time. We filed the divorce papers today. It was a mutual decision.”
The couple’s wedding, in Santa Barbara, was attended only by Henstridge’s two sons, Tristan and Asher, from a previous relationship.
She told Hello magazine:
“A week before Valentine’s Day, Darius said, ‘Let’s just elope!’ We love Valentine’s, we’re both a bit cheesy like that, so I said, ‘Why not?’ It was a very hard secret to keep. It was really spontaneous… I was like that young girl who dreams about her wedding day and I really felt it had all come true.”
It was her second marriage.
Henstridge is still best known for her role in 1995 science fiction film Species.
