Stowe Family Law strengthens leadership team in Sheffield

Sheffield family law firm expands team

Stowe Family Law (Stowe) has expanded its leadership team in Sheffield to support an increase in the number and complexity of new enquiries the firm is seeing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since the global pandemic struck back in March last year, enquiries into the firm from across the Yorkshire region have doubled* with a 135% increase reported in the Sheffield area alone.**

A recent survey commissioned by the firm also revealed that 82% of the people surveyed who lived in Yorkshire who had separated from their partner in the last year had not had tensions in their relationship before the pandemic. The most common reasons cited by couples separating were spending too much time together (34%), growing grown apart and lack of communication (19%) and 15% due to too many arguments.

Joining the Sheffield team are recently promoted Partners Maria Coster, who previously worked in the firm’s Huddersfield and Nottingham offices and Katie Kilburn, who worked from Leeds, Ilkley and Wetherby, but practices across the region as a collaborative lawyer.

These appointments will further strengthen the Stowe team in Sheffield. Maria and Katie will work closely with colleagues and other professionals to support a growing number of clients across the city.

Maria Coster supports clients on all types of family law work, including divorce, complex financial settlements and child law cases. She specialises in helping clients resolve their finances after separation in challenging cases involving business assets, spousal maintenance, cohabitation disputes and drafting nuptial agreements. Maria also advises on domestic abuse allegations, relocation, parental conflict and parental alienation in children cases.

Katie Kilburn has 13 years of experience in family law and is passionate about collaborative law, an approach to divorce and separation that empowers people to make informed and balanced decisions whilst moving the needs of children and the family higher up the agenda.

Rachel Roberts, Stowe’s Regional Director for Yorkshire, said:

“As the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues, we have seen a sharp rise in enquiries across Yorkshire and particularly in the Sheffield area. Bringing in Maria and Katie, who are both Partners, allows us to maintain the highest support levels for our clients throughout the pandemic and beyond. With their arrival, we now have a six-strong legal team working across Sheffield, and their combined years of experience in family law and knowledge will complement our existing offering to clients.”

Rachel continues:

“As part of the country’s largest specialist family law firm, we can also offer people in Sheffield access to an unrivalled nationwide network of knowledge and experience on their doorstep.”
