Below is a brief list of support groups, advice centres and more that you might benefit from, compiled by our Leeds lawyers. If you need further help, feel free to contact us.
Divorce Club Leeds
Divorce Club Leeds is a group that regularly runs events for divorcees, arranged through Meetup.
The Meetup group page states that Divorce Club Leeds ‘is hosted by two people who have gone through a divorce and come through the other side. Whether you are a man or woman, whether you want practical advice or just go out for the first time as a singleton, you are welcome to join us for a pint or two and a chat, a laugh and a moan.’
Meetup in general is a useful site for making new friends, for finding support groups, and for exploring hobbies new or old.
Together Friends
Together Friends is a site through which women can make friends. Their site can help you to make new friends by putting you in touch with like-minded women who share the same interests and live in the same area.
Family Action (Separated Parents Information Programme)
Family Action are a charity that provide practical, emotional and financial support to disadvantaged people in the UK. Their work is focused in a general sense on strengthening communities and families.
Their Separated Parents Information Programme ‘is a course that helps parents understand separation from a child’s point of view and learn the fundamental principles of how to manage and reduce the impact of conflict on their children.’ They state that the course is a safe place to learn:
- What children need most from their parents during a separation
- Practical skills that improve communication
- How to find and get support throughout a separation (particularly from other parents)
- How to deal with the emotional impact of separation
The course runs online and is available to single parents across England. Places are normally offered to parents directed to them by Court, but it’s possible for you to book a place independently.
