A client contacted our family law solicitors in Norwich for help with a high-conflict financial dispute running alongside their divorce proceedings. They had lost confidence in their previous solicitors and the legal process in general, and from the start, it was important that they felt supported about how to move forward.

The client had tried to sort out the financial settlements themselves, but without success. There was a further complication due to an intervenor, another family member, who had got involved and was seeking repayment of monies that they claimed were owed.

The client initiated divorce proceedings online. Now it was clear that they needed straightforward and strategic advice on how to move forward with resolving the financial aspects of the case.

How our legal team advised them

The main challenges in this case were that our client’s ex was refusing to engage with the process properly, and the additional family member who was requesting money would not budge from their position.

The client spoke to Rosalyn Jacobs, Senior Associate, who provided focused legal guidance and strategic direction about how they could reach a fair financial settlement, despite the challenges created by limited engagement from the other parties and the client’s financial constraints.

Rosalyn helped the client feel confident about the legal process. She was able to provide advice on the likely financial outcome and explain the options to resolve the dispute, including negotiation, mediation services and court proceedings.

Helping clients move forward with confidence

Despite the lack of cooperation from the other side, we ensured the client’s position was clearly articulated and robustly presented.

The client was grateful for our help, commenting:

“I would also like to thank you for the efforts towards resolving my financial situation. Although their refusal to engage with us certainly slowed things down, I believe we made our position to them clear.”
