Computer giant Apple Inc was one of several technology companies to hail yesterday’s rulings by the US Supreme Court on gay marriage legislation.
A spokesman for the Cupertino-based maker of the iPhone, iPad and Mac computer told technology site AllThingD:
“Apple strongly supports marriage equality and we consider it a civil rights issue. We applaud the Supreme Court for its decisions today.”
Meanwhile, Google endorsed the decision by adding a hidden feature to its search results. Users searching for the keywords ‘gay ‘, ‘lesbian’ ‘bisexual’ and similar terms were presented with a rainbow banner around the search box.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg celebrated the Supreme’s Court ruling with a posting on his own profile.
“I’m proud that our country is moving in the right direction, and I’m happy for so many of my friends and their families. #PrideConnectsUs”
Photo sharing app Instagram, acquired by Facebook last year, posted a special message on its official company blog highlighting photographs of the celebrations.
IT veteran Hewlett-Packard also weighed in. Michael Thacker of the HP Pride Employee Resource Group declared:
“HP has more than 30 years of partnership with and participation in pride events, and works throughout the year to build and strengthen HP as an organization that values all employees, customers and communities.”
