In this £4.4m divorce, Rosanna Hounslow worked on behalf of a client who was leaving a long marriage that had involved coercive control and exclusion from financial decision-making. Despite substantial matrimonial assets, this meant that our client had been left financially vulnerable.
Throughout the case, the spouse’s behaviour was obstructive and manipulative. This raised safeguarding concerns, and the case needed careful management and a trauma-informed strategy from experienced high-net-worth divorce solicitors.
The priority was to protect the client’s safety and best interests, while ensuring the court had clear evidence of the husband’s misconduct.
This included securing a non-molestation order to protect our client from further harassment and intimidation. Rosanna also obtained an additional order to provide immediate financial security during proceedings, and a Legal Services Payment Order (LSPO) so the client could maintain legal representation on an equal footing to their spouse. Finally, we made sure special measures were put in place at court that helped safeguard our client.
The divorce settlement included a 50/50 division of the £4.4m matrimonial assets, full repayment of our client’s legal fees, a costs order against the spouse recognising their unreasonable conduct, and ongoing maintenance that was payable until the sale and division of the property assets. This outcome provided our client with financial security and peace of mind.
This case shows how we can protect clients in complex financial proceedings and achieve successful results in high-value divorce cases involving power imbalances.
