Mark Chapman is based at Stowe Family Law’s office in Winchester, catering to clients across the south of the country. He also contributes to the firm’s blog.
He qualified as a solicitor in 2006, having come to the law a little later than most and has exclusively practised family law ever since.
With a keen eye for detail, he ensures that no stone is left unturned. Mark is known for the practical approach that he brings to matters and is committed to dealing with cases in a constructive manner. With a thorough knowledge of all aspects of family law, Mark’s particular expertise is in dealing with the financial implications on the breakdown of a marriage for mid to high net worth clients. Mark continues to assist clients in relation to their children, whether it be over the time each parent is to spend with the child or with whom the child should live. Mark also deals with cases where permission has been sought from the Courts for a parent and child to relocate to a foreign jurisdiction and recently helped a client where the Court had to decide on how a child should be educated.
Mark studied Geography at the University of the West of England Bristol, and taught English as a foreign language in Naples, Barcelona and Seville for around three years. However, during the time he spent on this endeavour, Mark always knew he would go into the legal profession at some stage. He earned his PGDL and LPC at the Old College of Law in Birmingham.
Away from the office, his time is spent ensuring that his two young boys have a full appreciation of everything that rugby and cricket have to offer. When he has the odd quiet moment can be found reading his extensive collection of cook books.
“I have recently been involved in a very acrimonious divorce. After a year of frustration with my then “specialist divorce” practice, in desperation and a mere three weeks before a court hearing, I turned to Mark Chapman at Stowe, Winchester. He hit the ground running and achieved more in those three weeks than my previous solicitor(s) had in a year! His clear and robust approach was a breath of fresh air. Although nominally more expensive, our overall cost would have been far lower had we instructed Mark in the first place. He also very ably represented me in a later court hearing and achieved a settlement which I believe was the best I could reasonably expect. Full marks and highly recommended.”
“Mr Mark Chapman has the ability to communicate effectively with the client and explain complex legal issues, advise and strategies to achieve the most rational and best outcome from the divorce proceedings in what can be a most emotionally challenging and totally unfamiliar environment for the client. Mr Chapman and his team are always available to make time when the investigation of the divorce issues take an unexpected turn. Mr Chapman shoulders much of the worry and the unknown on behalf of the client in the course of the divorce proceedings. I cannot too highly recommend Mr Chapman to anyone else in a similar situation.”
