More about us – divorce solicitors Reigate

More about us – divorce solicitors Reigate

  • How much does divorce cost?

The cost of divorce will vary depending on your circumstances. If your case includes financial considerations or arrangements for children, our divorce cost guide and divorce pricing information explain what may be involved. Your solicitor will also discuss an estimated cost with you at the start, tailored to your circumstances. For straightforward cases we offer a fixed-fee divorce option.

  • Which family court will I attend if I’m based in Reigate?

If you are based in Reigate or the surrounding area and a hearing is required, your case will usually be heard at Guildford County Court and Family Court at The Law Courts, Mary Road, Guildford (GU1 4PS). Our solicitors will ensure you are fully prepared and supported throughout the process.

  • Where is Guildford Family Court and how do I get there from Reigate?

Guildford County Court and Family Court is located at The Law Courts on Mary Road, close to Guildford Crown Court, Guildford High Street, the River Wey and Friary Shopping Centre. It is around a 10–15 minute walk from Guildford Station via Walnut Tree Close towards the Law Courts complex.

From our Reigate office at Castle Court, 41 London Road (RH2 9RJ), the court is approximately a 25–35 minute drive via the A25 and A3 towards Guildford, passing Reigate Hill, Newlands Corner and Guildford Cathedral before reaching the town centre. Nearby cafés include Starbucks in Friary Shopping Centre, Costa Coffee on North Street and independent favourite Coffee Culture on Chapel Street if you arrive early.

If driving, parking is available at Bedford Road Car Park, York Road Car Park and Tunsgate Car Park, all within walking distance of the court.

  • If you are looking to get divorced or separated

Legally ending a relationship is a key life decision that is not taken lightly. For most people, it is the only remaining course of action following considerable time and effort trying to save a marriage. Whether you want to start the divorce process or have received divorce papers (called a divorce petition) from your spouse, our divorce solicitors give expert divorce advice in a language you will understand. They do so with compassion and empathy.

The divorce process is probably new to you. Many aspects will feel unfamiliar, such as archaic legal jargon and the many forms that will need filling out and posting. The divorce process often causes confusion and frustration, instead of providing much-needed clarity. Our solicitors take great care in delivering that clarity as well as guidance on the emotional, legal and practical challenges ahead.

After understanding your situation and goals, we will explain how things are likely to play out. We will present alternative options where appropriate, to help you achieve the result you need.

  • Non-confrontational approach

Our divorce solicitors are members of Resolution, an organisation that promotes a non-confrontational approach for divorce.  In our experience, this provides better outcomes for families and also reduces the possibility of an acrimonious divorce in court, which can slow the process and increase costs.  Where possible we will encourage and facilitate dialogue between both parties so that at least basic arrangements can be agreed for family finances and children.

We also offer mediation, which is a process conducted by one of our qualified mediators to help both parties reach a compromise on any sticking points.  These points are usually children and finance related.  We offer mediation to help encourage openness and willingness to communicate.  Two alternatives to divorce mediation are collaborative law and divorce arbitration – you can read more about all three here and your solicitor can explain further.

We understand that sometimes it is not possible to reach agreements without going to court and having a Family Court judge decide.  We are expert litigators with an excellent track record in court.

  • Child arrangements

Working out your arrangements for child custody can be a difficult and emotional step, and while it can become a contentious issue, it is in the best interests of your children to reach an amicable agreement with your ex-partner. It is helpful to have the support of a child law specialist on-hand to provide guidance on what a fair and workable arrangement might look like for you and your family.

Our Reigate child law solicitors have extensive experience in child arrangement order cases and have seen a variety of solutions to suit every situation, no matter how niche. Our goal is to get the best outcome for your children and to help you to maintain a positive relationship with your ex-partner where possible.

  • Updates from our Reigate office

Emma Newman is Managing Partner for Stowe Family Law across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, overseeing teams in offices including Brighton, Esher, Guildford and Tunbridge Wells, alongside the wider regional office network. Recognised by both Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500, Emma is an experienced family lawyer specialising in complex financial matters, particularly cases involving businesses, trusts and high-net-worth individuals.
