John Newberry

Training & experience 

John graduated from Exeter University, reading English Literature before converting to Law at the University Law. John qualified at a boutique Guildford Law firm before moving to large national firms in London, prior to joining Stowe’s offices in Esher, Guildford and Brighton in December 2022.

John has been practicing Family law for 9 years, 7 of which as a qualified solicitor.

Specialisms

John has experience in all aspects of family law issues arising from the breakdown of relationships, including financial matters, contact disputes involving children and advising cohabiting and unmarried couples. He is known for taking a practical and considered approach to complex matters and has experience in more niche areas such as complex public sector pension schemes and intangible assets such as cryptocurrencies.

Approach

John’s aims are always to provide straightforward and pragmatic advice to clients during some of their most challenging moments. His approach generally is to try and conclude matters in a sensitive and amicable fashion wherever possible but he will take a robust approach where necessary to fight any client’s corner.

John is a Resolution Member and former Surrey YRes committee member.

Outside of work

When not in the office, John enjoys sailing in Cornwall and playing golf with varying degrees of success. He also spends much of his time and energy chasing after two small children, again with varying degrees of success.
